From 25th - 27th September 2015 a contingent from Montabaur visit their friends from Brackley European Association (BEA) in Brackley to celebrate the 40th anniversary of twinning during the weekend.

The weekend had begun when the Deputy Town Mayor, Councillor Fiona Baker came to welcome the German contingent when they arrived at the Town Hall to be greeted with an English teatime reception with home baked scones, jam and cream and traditional shortcake bisquits. The German visitors then whised away by their English hosts, some of whom have been meeting up with the same families every year for the whole 40 years of twinning.

On Saturday, there was a very enjoyable and informative day's outing to visit Hill Close Gardens in Wrwick and the Lord Leycester Hospital, finished off in style with a social evening in St Peter's extension hall with a buffet supper and entertainment.

On Sunday the Town Mayor of Brackley, Councillor Jim Broomfield, in full regalia and brilliant sunshine, welcomed 33 German visitors and their Mayor celebrating 40 years of continuous twinning between both towns.

The day began with a guided history walk up and down the High Street led by members of the BEA. The German visitors were given an illustrated booklet written in their own language to give them an introduction to some of Brackley's fascinating history. At midday, the Morris Men danced with great aplomb on the piazza and then the assembled company repaired to the prestigious Upper Chamber of Brackley's historic Town Hall for a civic Reception and a formal luncheon. There were the two Mayors, a number of Town Councillors, members of the BEA, their German visitors and special guests, the Lord Lieutenant, David Laing, and the High Sherrif, Dr. Ahmed Muktar and their wives. There was a splendid musical interlude led by members or the Town Band and a celebration cake was ceremonially cut. Gifts were exchanged, toast and speeches made and the original pledges of friendship and co-operation renewed by signing and sealing new Charters.

After the formalities on Sunday, hosts and guests spend a relaxing Monday in and around Brackley, with a small party being entertained at the Mercedes Petronas site.

On Tuesday morning the BEA members waved a fond farwell to the German coach as they set off for a few days sightseeing in other parts of England.

It had been a really great occassion; new friendships made, existing one deepened.
